Employee Spotlight: Get to Know Amanda Kinney
This month we are excited for you to get to know Amanda Kinney, one of our amazing java engineers! Keep reading to learn more about Amanda and her important role at Pieces.
Describe your role at Pieces
I am currently a developer for the Pieces Connect team, and the tech lead for the "App Dev" team. I do a little bit of everything for Pieces Connect including front end, back end, database, and deployment work.
How long have you been with Pieces and what were you doing prior to joining?
Approaching 2 years in November. Before this, I spent 5 years at Sabre Holdings working as a backend developer in the airline industry.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is working with the amazing people here at Pieces. Good teammates make all the difference.
What inspires you?
My daughter! She has been in and out of the pediatric hospital system since birth. I'm so glad that I can make a positive difference for people like her through my job in the health industry, working with both CBOs and hospital systems. I understand firsthand what those patients are going through, and I love the thought that we can make a difference for them.
What’s an accomplishment you are most proud of?
I am proud of everything I have achieved here at Pieces so far. When I first joined, I was only familiar with backend Java services for the most part. I have since learned to be a full stack developer and completed multiple successful projects including Epic integrations and Reporting 2.0. I now am the tech lead for the App Dev team as we continue to upgrade and enhance the Pieces Connect product.
What’s the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Never give up. When you are faced with a tricky code problem, often you just need to sleep on it, and you will be able to figure something out the next day. You can always talk it out with teammates too. Even just stating the problem out loud may give you a new perspective.
What do you do in your free time?
I love to spend time with family and friends, reading, or playing video games.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Most of my family is in Malaysia.
